Editor - Secondary Chinese Language Teaching (SCLT) - 2 years Fixed Term Contract
About the Role
We are looking for a talented Editor to join our Chinese Language Teaching Editorial Team who will be responsible for assisting in all stages of the production of Chinese Language Teaching (CLT) materials for the target market, and conducting research of target markets and materials within schedule in order to facilitate planning of market-appropriate courses and achieve the policy and profit objectives set by management.
Key Responsibilities:
Market and Product knowledge
Clear understanding of market requirements is demonstrated.
Research into, knowledge, and dissemination of HKEAA and EDB syllabi, education policy and pedagogic developments is up to date
Education Bureau/Examination Authority syllabi are understood and accurately interpreted.
Product knowledge is in-depth and working knowledge of all major competitive publications is maintained.
Desk Editing
OUP copy-editing and proofreading standards are adhered to.
Ideas are developed for, and appropriate illustrations obtained to complement and aid understanding of the text.
Work done meets the requirements specified by supervisors.
Management of files is effective and up to date.
Material for publication is up to the highest possible standard within the limitations of the budget and the schedule (with zero slippage).
Research and Analysis
Strategic plans for formal research of target market are formulated.
Relevant analysis of target materials is carried out on schedule.
Networking with and active involvement in school visits, focus groups and meetings with relevant professionals and associations is ongoing.
Research Coordination and Dissemination
Research objectives among CLT projects are coordinated.
Dissemination and explanation of research results to colleagues meets agreed objectives.
Input in usage and application of research results to ensure accuracy and relevance of publishing programme.
Knowledge and Skills’ Acquisition and Sharing
Active involvement in training workshops and sharing sessions in line with managers’ instructions.
Responsibility for own learning and development is taken.
Flexibility, Willingness and Efficiency
Willingness to cooperate with other teams and provide assistance when required, and at short notice.
Willingness to take up new challenges and assist in the smooth transition of resources.
Tasks are completed on schedule and in line with instructions
Increase Brand Awareness and Respect for the Brand
Promote Oxford University Press and its product lines both during and outside office hours at, e.g. seminars, book exhibitions, conferences, schools, professional associations, Spring dinners, author’s parties, etc
About You
Essential:
University degree in Chinese language or related discipline
High level of literacy in written and spoken Chinese
Excellent inter-personal skills, team player, adaptable, flexible
Presentation skills
Excellent organizational and prioritization skills
Ability to work under pressure
Analytical skills
Desirable:
Editorial experience in educational books
Competitive, with winning attitude
