Launched in 1997, the China Daily Hong Kong Edition offers a unique local perspective that has become essential reading for decision-makers, including HKSAR government officials, CEOs and senior executives, scholars and academics in Hong Kong and Macau.

The China Daily Hong Kong Edition is recognized by both the newspaper industry and readers for its exceptional journalism and outstanding reporting. China Daily was a frequent winner at the most recent “Hong Kong News Awards” organized by the Newspaper Society of Hong Kong. Since 2010, The Hong Kong Edition has been honored every year at the “Hong Kong News Awards”, winning a current total of 141 awards.

In order to manage the development and its integrated revenue growth across China Daily media products, we are now looking for qualified candidates in Hong Kong to fill the following position:

Sub Editor

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible to check and proofread English news stories and commentary pieces

  • Design news, comment, feature pages

  • Facilitate the work of (expat) copy editors and graphic designers

  • Do quality control for newspaper content

  • Handle advertisement and special commercial pages

  • Assist with ad-hoc assignments the department is responsible for

Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree or above in Journalism or media communication or related disciplines from a reputable university

  • Experience in news media preferably English news media preferred

  • Excellent English writing and reading skills

  • Good English speaking skills

  • Basic computer skills (InDesign and Photoshop skills preferred)

  • Able to work with expats in an international environment

  • Eager to learn new knowledge and acquire new skills

  • Good team work spirit and communication skills

  • Detail-minded with high sense of responsibility, able to work independently and under pressure

  • Must accept working on night shift (4 pm to 1 am)
