Manager (Communications and Public Affairs)
Reporting to the Head of Corporate Communications, the incumbent will perform the following responsibilities to enhance HKGI’s brand awareness and foster public understanding of genomic medicine by planning and implementing a wide range of publicity initiatives.
Key responsibilities:
Devise and implement effective publicity and media relations programmes to promote HKGI and foster public understanding of genomic medicine
Serve as HKGI’s content curator, develop compelling messages and bilingual write-ups to publicise HKGI’s achievements
Handle media enquiries, interviews, events, daily monitoring and etc. Proactively engage with the media and maintain strong rapport to ensure positive coverage
Manage stakeholder engagement and public affairs, including matters related to the Legislative Council and professional bodies. Assist in issue management and formulation of responses and mitigation plans
Support internal communications, such as preparing board and committee papers and staff messages
Perform any other duties assigned by senior officers.
Requirements:
We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Manager (Communications and Public Affairs) who possesses:
A university degree in Communications, Languages, Public Relations (PR) or related disciplines
At least 10 years of solid experience in corporate communications, public affairs or related fields; experience in sizable public organisation or PR agency will be an advantage
Proven track record in delivery of successful publicity and public affairs campaigns with strong experience in media relations, project management and vendor management
Excellent storytelling skills with excellent written and spoken English and Chinese; ability to turn complex information into impactful stories that resonate with audiences
Demonstrated maturity, attention-to-detail, proactivity and self-motivation. Strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a dynamic setting
Assistant Manager (Communications and Public Affairs)
Reporting to the Head of Corporate Communications, the incumbent will perform the following responsibilities to enhance HKGI’s brand awareness and foster public understanding of genomic medicine by planning and implementing a wide range of publicity initiatives.
Key responsibilities:
Assist in the planning and implementation of publicity projects to raise HKGI’s brand awareness, such as events, visits and production of corporate publications and videos
Conduct daily news and social media monitoring; build and maintain strong relationships with the media and other key stakeholders
Draft, edit and translate communication messages and publicity materials, including press releases, media Q&A, speeches, advertorials, presentations and annual reports
Oversee the design, content updates and maintenance of the HKGI corporate website. Devise plans for website revamp and manage project progress
Support the team’s administrative operations and perform any other duties as assigned by senior officers
Requirements:
We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Assistant Manager (Communications and Public Affairs) who possesses:
A university degree in Communications, Languages, Public Relations (PR), or related disciplines
At least 6 years of relevant experience in corporate communications or related fields, including at least 2 years in an in-house role. Experience gained in sizable public organisation or PR agency will be an advantage
Strong media network and keen awareness to public affairs and issues; solid experience in media relations and copywriting
Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese
Knowledge and experience in website revamp and management; strength in project management
Proactiveness, self-motivation and resourcefulness , with a keen attention to detail and ability to multitask
Strong presentation and communication skills

Remuneration:

Research Assistant (Genome Curation)
Reporting to the Head of Operations (Scientific Branch), the incumbent will assume the following responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in developing and managing genome curation platform for next-generation sequencing (NGS) data
Support the research officer in developing processes or models for variant prioritisation
Receive training in tertiary analysis for whole genome sequencing (WGS) data and assist in data mining, curation and interpretation of genome sequencing results following current international standards
Generate plots and figures to assist in the presentation of results
Conduct basic literature reviews, research, and perform related clerical duties
Participate in research and development activities
Perform any other duties assigned by senior officers
Requirements:
We are seeking a high-calibre candidate for the post of Research Assistant (Genome Curation) who possesses:
A Bachelor’s degree or above in Biomedical Sciences, Genetic Sciences, Health Sciences, Medical Statistics, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline
Basic knowledge and experience in research studies, with a willingness to receive on-the-job training
Familiarity with NGS technology and its data formats is preferred
Proficiency in coding in Python or R, and data-wrangling skills such as extracting information from VCF files and manipulating data structures is desirable
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
Good written Chinese and English and fluency in spoken Cantonese; strong written English is an advantage
Strong teamwork and collaboration mindset
Experience in genome research resulting in publications in international peer-reviewed journals is preferred
Knowledge or experience in the analysis of cancer genomes, single-cell sequencing, and long-read sequencing data is a plus
Experience in patient care, clinical research, and the use of digital health technologies in healthcare settings would be advantageous

Summer Internship Programme 2024 (Finance and Procurement / Corporate Communications / Bioinformatics Platform and Applications)
The HKGI Summer Internship Programme offers a unique opportunity for passionate and aspiring students to gain valuable practical experience and industry insights in the genomics and related fields. Running between June and August 2024, the programme offers a chance for students to explore the operations of the Hong Kong Genome Project, working alongside a team of highly professional and experienced professionals.
We are seeking passionate students who are eager to develop their careers in genomics and related fields. Successful candidates will be assigned to Finance and Procurement / Corporate Communications / Bioinformatics (Platform and Applications) department based on their academic background and interests.
Key responsibilities:
(a) Finance and Procurement
Provide daily operational support, including but not limited to monthly reporting, payment process and fixed asset management
Assist in procurement exercises and projects
Support clerical and administrative duties such as document filing and data input
Undertake any other duties as assigned by mentors
(b) Corporate Communications
Assist in the design and production of HKGI corporate publications, such as Annual Report and videos
Conduct industry research; draft and translate PR materials to publicise HKGI’s work
Assist in event/ visit planning, overall logistics and coordination
Support daily news and social media monitoring
Support the team’s record management, daily operations and ad hoc tasks
(c) Bioinformatics (Platform and Applications)
Participate in the system implementation of the inhouse and vendor-based platform and applications
Prepare test plan, carry out system integration testing, and facilitate user testing
Provide administrative support to the team
Requirements:
Residents of the HKSAR and lawfully employable in the HKSAR

Programme Duration:
Successful candidates will receive on-the-job training at the HKGI between June and August 2024, with a monthly salary to be determined by the HKGI. The internship period may be extended subject to HKGI operational requirements and candidates’ availability.
