Senior Manager, Business Development

Job Description
The Senior Manager, Business Development will drive and supervise activities on industrial collaboration project development, technical marketing, technology transfer, commercialization, and start-up establishment for the research outputs and intellectual properties (IP) of ACCESS in the field of design and design automation of scalable chips and systems supporting large-scale AI models and wider spectrum of semiconductor and AI technologies. S/he will be stationed at the Hong Kong Science Park, with occasional business travels when needed.

Responsibilities
Reporting to the Executive Director of ACCESS, the key responsibilities of the position include but not limited to:

  • Establish proactive working relationships with R&D teams and faculty’s research groups to co-develop the technology transfer strategy and roadmap, identify commercialization opportunities, manage the technology portfolio lifecycle, and facilitate collaboration among internal and external stakeholders to translate research outputs into market-ready solutions.

  • Lead the development of commercialization proposals and business cases based on market analysis, customer insights, technology/IP landscape, competitive analysis, etc., ensuring alignment with ACCESS’s technology roadmap, research outcomes, and operation-level testbeds.

  • Establish strategic collaborations with local and overseas industrial partners, the public sector, universities and research institutions, open-source communities, and innovation ecosystems to leverage resources and expertise for project advancement.

  • Manage customer relationships and establish technology transfer agreements and research contracts with private companies and the public sector; coordinate project-specific customer engagements and work closely with internal teams to establish project management frameworks; monitor milestone delivery; and proactively manage risks and stakeholder expectations throughout the contract lifecycle.

  • Facilitate and coordinate ACCESS’s spin-off programs based on ACCESS technologies from the initial business plan, team formation, and early-stage fund raising through to the launch of the spin-off company.

  • Develop and execute technical marketing strategies, including the definition of ACCESS' technologies' position in the market, technical benefits and differentiators, business development-relevant marketing materials preparation and presentation, and organizing events/ exhibitions to showcase project achievements and generate qualified connections with commercialization partners.

  • Design, implement, and optimize internal business development workflows; coordinate ACCESS and HKUST relevant functions if necessary; monitor process compliance, turnaround times, and resource utilization to ensure operational efficiency.

  • Carry out ad hoc tasks as assigned.

Requirements
Applicants should have an advanced degree, hands on experience in technology management, business development and spilt off related to IC design, design automation, semiconductor, or AI technologies; preferably a Ph.D./DBA with at least 5-year relevant experience, or MPhil/MBA with at least 8-year relevant experience, or equivalent; solid industry experience in handling technology business development, technology commercialization, start-up experience would be advantageous. He/she must be legally permitted to work in Hong Kong. The ideal candidate should have excellent communication skills, a strategic mindset, and the ability to build and maintain strong partnerships. S/he should have a great sense of responsibility, the ability to multi-task and work independently, and proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese.

Project Assistant

Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining the contents on website, social media platforms and other publications regularly including, but not limited to copywriting, translation and editing of marketing collaterals;

  • Work closely with internal teams and/or external parties on campaigns, conference events, media activities and follow up the logistics arrangements;

  • Support media interviews, shootings and handle enquiries from different channels;

  • Provide administrative and logistics support on daily office operations; and

  • Perform other duties and ad-hoc tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Higher diploma or above with at least 5 years of working experience, preferably in Marketing/ Public Relations/ Corporate Communications, preferably gained from agencies, sizeable corporations or public organizations will be an advantage;

  • Proficient in marketing software and possesses hands on experience in managing social media accounts including WeChat and LinkedIn is preferred;

  • Good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese;

  • Proficient in MS Office and Chinese word processing; knowledge in Adobe Illustration, and Photoshop will be an advantage;

  • Mature, Independent, capable of multi-tasking and a good team player;

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to interact internal and external parties;

  • Able to work independently, under pressure and meet tight deadlines; and

  • Immediate availability is highly preferred.

Principal Engineer / Principal Architect

Job Description
The AI Chip Centre for Emerging Smart Systems (ACCESS) is a multi-disciplinary center for advancing IC design and design automation technologies to enable novel data-centric computing paradigms supporting a wide range of AI applications. The research agenda in ACCESS is organized into four research programs, addressing four key technical areas, including 1) Enabling Technology for Emerging Computer Systems, 2) Architecture and Heterogeneous System Integration, 3) AI-Assisted EDA for AI Hardware, and 4) Hardware-Accelerated AI Applications.

Responsibilities
The Principal Engineer / Principal Architect will be involved in one of the research programs and will conduct collaborative research in one or multiple research projects in the Center. He/she should be hands-on in design and implementation tasks, as well as coaching junior research/engineer staff, in one or multiple research or R&D projects in the Center.

The Principal Engineers / Principal Architects are required to station and work at the Hong Kong Science Park, with occasional business travels to the HKUST Clear Water Bay Campus and other Collaborating Universities of the Center when needed.

Requirements
Applicants should have a PhD degree preferably in electronics, electrical or computer engineering, computer science, or equivalent, and at least 5 years of post-qualification experience in R&D; or MPhil / MSc degree holder plus 7 / 9 years’ experience equivalent respectively. In-depth knowledge and experience in integrated circuit design, design automation or broadly microelectronics are essential. Specifically, rich and hands-on R&D experiences as well as proficiency in design and implementation in at least one of the following area(s) with relevance to the design of AI accelerators are preferred (but not limited to):

  • Digital SoC/ASIC design (front-end and back-end); FPGA prototyping; full-flow tape-out experience from architecture/specification to chip bring-up is highly desired;

  • Analog/Mixed-signal IC design; layout design and verification; experiences in successful tape-out with advanced process node (e.g., 22nm) are preferable;

  • Electronic design automation (EDA) algorithm design and optimization; architecture modeling and simulation; hardware design space exploration (DSE) and Hardware-software co-design;

  • Compiler design and development (including IRs, front-end, back-end, auto-tuning, etc.); Experiences in NN compiler and toolchain (such as TVM, MLIR, nGraph, Glow, XLA, etc.) are preferable;

  • Hardware-oriented machine learning algorithm design/NAS (such as DNN, RNN/LSTM/GRU, transformer, etc.) and optimization (such as compact model, quantization, sparsifying, etc.);

  • Neuromorphic computing, compute-in-memory (CIM), non-volatile memory (CVM), silicon photonic devices, 3D integration, etc. with relevance to the design of AI accelerators.

The ideal candidate should have strong R&D capability and superior interpersonal and organizational skills. He/She should be an excellent team-player with a strong sense of responsibility, ability to multi-task and work independently, and a good command of written and spoken English. Outstanding verbal, written and presentation skills are also required.

Terms of Appointment
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided.
