Senior Lecturer/Lecturer

Applications are invited for appointment as Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in the School of Clinical Medicine and the School of Biomedical Sciences (Ref.: 533028) to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

Applicants should possess a doctoral degree in Biomedical Sciences, Medical and Health Sciences Education, Computer Science or a related discipline, with a keen understanding of the practical application of technology, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), in tertiary education.  They are expected to have a proven record in successfully employing educational technology for teaching and learning activities, and show demonstrated ability in collaboration with other teachers to determine, design, implement and evaluate instructional strategies and solutions.  A track record of publications in educational journals would be an advantage.  The position offered depends on the level of expertise and years of teaching experience – at least 10 years for Senior Lecturer and 3 years for Lecturer. 

The appointee will contribute to the development and teaching of courses on the impact of AI in healthcare, as well as other related subjects in Biomedical and Health Sciences in our undergraduate and/or postgraduate programmes.  He/She will also take a leading role in developing and implementing various pedagogical initiatives utilizing the state-of-the art educational technology on the Faculty level.  Applicants who have responded to the previous advertisement (Ref.: 532766) need not re-apply.

Technical Officer

Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering, Software Engineering, Information System, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, or other related disciplines with 1 year’s work experience, preferably in the education sector.  They should have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese; a strong sense of responsibility; good interpersonal skills; and the ability to work independently and in teams.  Experience in the use of AI and VR for teaching and learning, as well as proficiency in common programming languages and cloud computing platforms would be an advantage.  Those holding a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical/Health Sciences or related fields with strong programming skills may also be considered.

Technical Officer in Bioinformatics

Technical Officer in the Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine (Ref.: 533006)

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Bioinformatician to join our research team focusing on kidney research and inflammatory and fibrotic disease mechanisms.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive analysis of RNA-Seq and single-cell RNA-Seq data

  • Process, analyze and interpret metagenomics datasets

  • Develop pipelines and scripts for sequencing data preprocessing, quality control, alignment, and downstream analysis

  • Assist in preparing data visualization for publication

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A Master’s degree or above in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field with at least 2 year's post-qualification experience

  • Demonstrated experience with RNA-Seq and single-cell RNA-Seq analysis

  • Proficiency in programming language R and Python, and experience with bioinformatics tools

  • Experience in developing bioinformatics pipeline and maintaining computer server

  • Track record of publications in bioinformatics analysis

  • Good communication skills, self-motivated, ability to multi-task, attention to detail, organized and be able to work independently as well as in a team

  • Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in bioinformatics and Computational Biology with strong interest in translational research

Non-Tenure Track Clinical Assistant Professor in Rheumatology

Applications are invited for appointment as Non-Tenure Track Clinical Assistant Professor in Rheumatology in the Department of Medicine, School of Clinical Medicine (Ref.: 532956), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.

Applicants should possess a medical qualification registrable with the Medical Council of Hong Kong, and a higher professional qualification of Specialty Fellowship of the relevant Hong Kong College under the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine or equivalent.  They should have a solid track record of clinical services in Rheumatology and demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching, and be able to contribute to the enhancement and development of courses for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.  They should also have extensive experience in managing patients with acute and chronic medical problems; demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in clinical services and training; and proven capacity and potential in performing research in their respective field.  Although teaching, research and professional activities are conducted in English, direct communication with patients is required and the languages employed are English, Cantonese and Putonghua.

Knowledge of design software would be an advantage.
